Content management system is basically a software with which we can manage website's content like pages, articles, images etc. on-line. It does not need to be stored separately on a desktop computer and uploaded every time, website gets updated in real time. More than one admin or users can be registered to the site. CMS Automatically takes care of the web designs of your site whenever you make updates to the articles or pages. CMS market has many contenders, so sometimes it gets difficult to choose the right one according to your requirements.
To choosethe best one, first you should be clear what type of website you want to build. It would be very difficult selecting the correct CMS if you don't know what you need your site to do. If you requirements are not too much and you don't want your site to be updated regularly, then may be you won't need a CMS at all. Simple HTML will do your job. Plain HTML has Less security issues. And if you decide to update your website regularly, want wide variety of themes, large no of users or admins and easy to manage then you can choose word press. Word press is very easy to install and can handle huge no of registered users and admins. Its very easy to manage. But with wordpress it can be difficult to customize the functionality and has limited number of features. Wordpress are more prone to hacker's attack due to large number of wordpress sites. But it's the best choice for personal websites, blogs and small business websites.

For multimedia sites, E-Commerce websites or membership sites Joomla can be a great option. Its a good option for high traffic websites and website with pages less than 1k. Its very easy to install and mange. Its can be very handy for websites build for growth and increasing features. For companies who requires enterprise sites and have IT staff, Drupal may be the choice. Drupal websites are good for scalability and huge no of pages. It can handle heavy traffic. All though it need good learning to get used to Drupal and has limited no of plug-ins.

For big companies that requires custom application development, reliable security, awesome documentation then the DotNetNuke would be the better choice. It can be great option for companies who is already using a Microsoft server. DotNetNuke has a great community support. So its simple task to choose a right CMS if you know what exactly you want to do with your site, otherwise you can end with a CMS that won't be suitable for your future needs.
